Diploma of Community Services
Lead case management and coordinate services for individuals and communities.
Course description
This qualification reflects the roles of community services, case management and social housing workers involved in managing, coordinating and/or delivering person-centred services to individuals, groups and communities.
At this level, workers have specialised skills in community services and work autonomously under broad directions from senior management. Workers are usually providing direct support to individuals or groups of individuals.
Workers may also have responsibility for the supervision of other workers and volunteers and/or case management, program coordination or the development of new business opportunities.
To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 100 hours of work. The course consists of twenty (20) units — twelve (12) core and eight (8) elective.
Mode of study
The course is delivered face-to-face and includes:
- 20 hours of scheduled face-to-face classes per week
- Online training through the e-learning system
- All resources provided online
- 200 hours of compulsory work placement

The amount of training has been determined to give learners sufficient time to develop the skills, knowledge and experience required in each unit of competency.

Entry requirements
Learners must meet the following entry requirements to be admitted to this training product:
- Aged 18 years or older
- Grade 12 or equivalent
- IELTS 6.0 (no band less than 5.5)
- Sound language, literacy and basic computer skills
- Unique Student Identifier (USI)
- Valid photo ID and signature
- Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) evaluation
- Positive National Criminal History check

Advanced Diploma of Community Sector Management → Graduate Diploma of Management (Learning), or proceed to employment in the industry.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) / Course credit
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is available. AVC's process is structured to minimise time and cost, with a supportive approach for learners. You should apply ideally at enrolment, and up to 2 weeks into your course.
In accordance with Standards for RTO 2025, Australis Vocational College recognises qualifications issued by other RTOs. AVC will accept and mutually recognise qualifications and Statements of Attainment awarded by any other Registered Training Organisation, unless precluded by licensing requirements.
